One of the top things to do in Chennai this weekend is head to the trade fair. Almost every Chennaite has had the pleasure of enjoying the yearly Chennai Trade Fair festival that goes on between January and March of every year. The experience is still quite the same for a child to see. As parents however, we prefer the finer and cleaner aspects of life.
Indulging in the huge applams isn’t as fun neither is it safe these days. But the joys of watching the stalls and listening to the loud announcements are not what we truly cherish as an adult. If we can put aside our prejudices as parents and allow our children to experience the simple joys of life, (of course not by overindulging in the applams) you just might be surprised to see how much your kids would enjoy the experience.
“I for one have been and always be a die hard fan of the trade fair. Every year I take my kids to check out the interesting stalls and pick up a few toys. The huge fluff of cotton candy on a stick is anyone’s favorite”
The joy rides are definitely something you might want to skip if you are being over-protective! But it does top our experiences on things to do in Chennai this weekend. But these rides (though they lack some safety) are quite fun when you pick the safe ones. While you might not enjoy getting on the rides, standing around watching the coins and phones fall out of pockets of careless people can be quite entertaining!

The nursery is always great and garden enthusiasts can pick up a few and even if you don’t have a garden, it’s almost definite that you see everyone taking back a plant in attempt to flaunt a green thumb.
The parking is something you might want to watch for and so is the crowd. If you choose to visit on a weekday, anytime after 7:00PM is a great time. The crowd is not overwhelming and you would still be able to enjoy yourselves. Weekends are quite exhaustive at the end, so you might want to go at around 3:00PM to beat the 6:00PM crowd.
Remember to carry along a lot of water and wear comfortable shoes. Skip your morning walk if you must coz by the time you’re going to be done, you are going to be one tired family! Remember to share your experience with us in the comments! We’d love to hear it!
